In 1927, Hugh Trudden founded what would eventually become McCourt & Trudden Funeral Home Inc. Mr. Trudden established the funeral home in the Richmond Hill section of Queens, NY. He provided undertaking and mortuary services to the families of the greater Queens area, serving with great dedication and compassion. Upon his passing, his wife Hannah Trudden took over as owner and would eventually marry Jim McCourt. Mr. McCourt went on to earn his funeral director’s license and would continue the tradition of caring and distinction in Richmond Hill.
Hugh and Hannah Trudden’s boys Eugene and Donald would eventually take over the business. In 1959, they sold the Richmond Hill location and purchased Talmadge Funeral Home in Farmingdale, NY. The Farmingdale location became what is now known today as McCourt & Trudden Funeral Home Inc. One of 5 boys, Eugene’s son Joseph would continue the family tradition as a licensed funeral director and eventual owner in the late 80’s. Joe became a bedrock of the Farmingdale community, eventually serving as Mayor from 1992-2004. He also served the Farmingdale community and beyond as a lifetime member of the Farmingdale Fire Department and a highly decorated Suffolk County Detective for 20 years before retiring in 1993 to direct his full attention to the funeral home. This included an expansion of both the funeral home and parking facilities in 1990.
